Camping Huttopia in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne (BsD from now on) is a favourite site of ours. It’s high quality and great value.

The heatwave in France meant that we needed shade and cool. The riverside pitches provide that, but there’s only so much you can do when it hits 40degC !!!

It was truly baking hot and fortunately the cool breeze off the river made it bearable overnight.

Our plan was to grab a coffee in town in the morning then stroll back, through the lovely centre, before it got “silly hot”.

Once back at camp it’s easy enough to read a (kindle) book and watch the Fly-fisherman, skilfully casting out to entrap the local fish (trout?).

For the next few days it really was the same routine, involving keeping as cool as possible. The French government declared it an emergency in Paris. Hundreds of people have died in previous heatwaves and this one just happened to be the hottest July on record!!!

Not particularly nice.

How long will it last I wonder?
